I knew it!!

I told miles going into cityside I would find a penny. I didn't. But walking out I found a quarter outside 7-11 right where the bums ask for change. Apparently they are raking it I'm these days cause one of them left a quarter for me. cha-CHING!!!!!

maine goldrush

the best thing about maine besides the weather, food, riding, and relaxation is that vacationers, like me, are so 'rich, unlike me, that they literally leave you extra money next to the ATM. yeah thats right i found a penny sitting next to the keypad at the thomaston bank of america's atm. last time i checked there was no take-a-penny leave-a-penny dish at atms.

home made pb&j v. smuckers uncrustables

like @smalps pointed out today smuckers uncrustables are quite delicious and convenient. i enjoy them myself very much so. but what is the relative cost of one of these treats compared to a good ol diy pb&j? i whipped up some numbers based off prices found at peapod.com which dont include tax since i live in MA and there is no tax on food at a grocery store. a 4 pack of grape uncrustables is $2.99. so your paying 74.75 cents per uncrustable. on the diy side making a pb&j with 1.5 tablespoons each of peanut butter and jelly and two pieces of bread works out like so: a large 28oz jar of skippy peanut butter (creamy or crunchy) is $3.79 or 10.14 cents for 1.5T. I do like smuckers jelly as well and 32oz will cost you $2.39 or 5.55 cents for a tablespoon and a half. my preferred bread of choice is JJ Nissen Canadian White, ehh, and at $3.59 per loaf two slices of that will cost you 35.9 cents. all this totals up to 51.59 cents for a delicious homemade pb&j, saving you 23.16 cents. factor in that you may use less peanut butter and jelly or you can use store brand products and i wouldnt doubt you could get the cost of this pb&j down to half the cost of an uncrustable while still tasting delicious. @twitpetebow

ughhhh

so far its been lame the last week or so. i found a penny yesterday on a "pointless" walk with caitlin. in dunkin donuts a slightly crazy guy had dropped 2 dimes on the floor i was hoping to pocket but he picked them up while i was attending to a near fatal emergency in the little boys room.

cha-ching

of all the places to find money on the ground!!!! i just picked up a penny on the floor at school, mass art, not only are we supposed to be artists and by nature of that profession dirt poor, we are the poorest of the poor attending this great nations only publicly funded art college so why would someone here throw away a penny? also last night i thought i saw a penny when i was getting in the elevator here, but i got faked out and it was only a brown peice of paper the size and shape of a penny.

statement of purpose

why do people throw away money? why would someone pass up a lincoln on the street, but not a washington or benny? i bet a millionaire would be more likely to bend over to pick up a penny than a dollar. with interest rates as low as they are and the economy struggling as much as it is you should take a step back and reevaluate the power of the almighty penny. put in perspective and compare the penny you just walked past on the side of the street in relation to the amount of other free money you earn in a month, ie interest earned on your various bank accounts. im not rich so adding a free penny to the other free money i gain through interest each month actaully inscreases my so called total monthly interest by whole percentages. this blog will hopefully function and a way to track money thrown away by other poor people, you know they are poor because rich people understand that throwing away a penny is really like throwing away a benny twenty years from now, who dont like carrying change around with them until they can get home to put in it a piggy bank and picked up by me.
